14U Blue Devils take 3rd Place in Summer Travel League

2007 was the first year Denville fielded a 14U travel team. The team competed in the NW Jersey Spring Travel League, 4 tournaments, and the Denville Summer Travel League. The 14U Blue Devils entered the playoffs as the number 3 seed and faced the number 2 seed Newton Braves in the semi-final round of the playoffs. The 14U team was knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual champion Newton Braves. Newton knocked-off Mendham All Stars 3-1 in the finals to win the championship.

12U Blue Devils Enjoy Great Summer Season

After winning the NW Jersey Spring National League Championship, Denville entered the Summer Travel season with high hopes. The 12U Denville Blue Devils posted a 10-1-1 record in the Summer League regular season and entered the playoffs as the number 1 seed. Unfortunately Denville had to face the Babe Ruth State Champions in the first round. The Montville Lady Mustangs proved too strong for Denville defeating the Blue Devils 7-4 to advance. Montville continued their winning ways in the second round and advanced to the finals. Montville won the Summer League Championship by knocking off Livingston 3-0 in the finals.

10U Blue Devils Win Summer Travel League Championship

After a tough loss in the Spring Travel League semi-finals, the Blue Devils entered the Summer League with something to prove. The Blue Devils got right to work finishing the regular season undefeated and setting themselves up as the number 1 seed entering the playoffs. After getting a bye in the first round, the Blue Devils faced the East Coast Tsunami in the second round. Denville defeated the East Coast Tsunami to advance to the finals against the Lincoln Park Angels. The Blue Devils defeated the Angels 2-1 to give Denville their second consecutive 10U Summer League Championship.

8U Blue Devils Enjoy First Season

2007 was the first year Denville fielded an 8U travel team. The team was selected from open tryouts that took place towards the end of the Spring Recreation League season. The team competed in the Sparta School’s Out Tournament and the Denville Summer Travel League. After finishing the regular season 6-3, Denville entered the playoffs as the number 2 seed. Denville hosted the Roseland Knights in the first round of the playoffs. Denville was defeated by the Knights 10-5 to end their season. The Montville Lady Mustangs defeated Roseland in the finals by a score of 6-5 to win the first-ever Denville Summer League 8U championship. 

Travel Softball Tryouts

Tryouts for the 2008 10U, 12U, and 14U Blue Devils teams will be held in September 2007. An optional pre-tryout practice will be held on Saturday September 22. Tryouts will take place on Sunday September 23 and Sunday September 30. Players must attend both tryout sessions. The optional pre-tryout practice and the tryouts will take place on Gardner Field 3 at the following times:

• 10U – 12:00-2:00
• 12U – 2:00-4:00
• 14U – 4:00-6:00

The 10U team is for players born in 1997, 1998, or 1999. The 12U team is for players born in 1995 or 1996. The 14U team is for players born in 1993 or 1994.

Babe Ruth Mandates Web-Based Training for All Coaches

In 2008, Babe Ruth will require all coaches be certified in a new web-based training program. It will be required every three years and will supplement the Rutgers Certification.
