Denville PAL Girls’ Softball
Clinic Division Rules
- Regulation game play will
consist of six innings. An official game shall be three innings (the
losing team will have batted in the third).
- No new inning shall be
started after 1 hour and 45 minutes of play. Once the inning has started, it shall be
played to completion.
- All girls play in the field
at all times. No more than 7 players are allowed to play in the infield.
- The 11” Incrediball
will be used during game play.
- The batter:
- Each team will follow
a permanent batting order that must include all players in attendance.
Players arriving after the start of the game must be placed at the bottom
of the order.
- The inning is over
when 3 outs are recorded or when 10 players bat. If the 10th batter comes to
the plate in an inning, all players and coaches must be informed by the
scorekeeper or coach of the team at bat. The tenth batter will be the
third out regardless of how many outs there are. The tenth batter will
bat as normal. Defensively, the 10th
batter will be treated as if there are two outs.
- Bunting is not
permitted.
- If a player throws a
bat:
- First time = warning
- Second time = called
out
- The Runner:
- Stealing is not
permitted.
- Runners may advance
only one base on balls hit in the infield and two bases on balls hit to
the outfield. Runners may not
advance on overthrows.
- Pitching:
- Each coach shall pitch
to his team.
- Walks
are not allowed so balls and strikes will not be called. The batter shall be called out after 3
swinging strikes or after she receives 6 pitches and does not put the
ball into play. If the 6th
pitch is fouled off, the batter shall receive an additional pitch. The coach who is pitching must make
every effort to avoid interfering with the defensive play on a batted
ball.
- Umpire:
- The coach who is
pitching will serve as the umpire.
- Players called out
must leave the base.
- If the top of the fourth
inning has been completed and the visiting team is losing by 10 or more
runs, the game is over. If the bottom of the fourth inning has been completed
and the home team is losing by 10 or more runs, the game is over.
- If the game needs to be
rescheduled, the home team must contact the rescheduler
within 48 hours or forfeit the game.
- Field Modifications: Base
paths will be set at 50 feet.
- Players may wear rubber
cleats (no metal spikes).
- Practice dates will be used
for rescheduling games. If the game can not be played due to rain or poor
field conditions, the home team coach shall contact the visiting team
coach within 48 hours to reschedule the game. The game shall be
rescheduled on a mutually agreeable date on using one of the home team’s
future practice slots. If a mutually agreeable date can not be found using
the home teams practice slots, a future practice slot from the visiting
team may be used.
To make our program fun and competitive, the rules will be modified if
needed. Our main objective is to have Denville’s PAL Girl’s Softball program
rules track the rules of our licensing organization and have our players
subject to the same standards of play as their peers throughout New Jersey
and the rest of the country.
