2007 Babe Ruth All-Star Tournament Rules

8U Rules - Tentative

 

Rules:  Utilize the Babe Rules for 10 & under.

Rule Exceptions / Clarifications:

1.       Players must be 8 or younger as of December 31, 2006.

2.       11” yellow ASA approved ball. 

3.       Bats must be ASA approved.  Use of a non-approved bat will result in the batter being called out.

4.       Helmets with face masks are strongly recommended.

5.       Cinderella batting – all players in attendance bat (player not need be in the field to be in batting order).  If a player must leave or is injured, player is skipped in batting order without an automatic out being counted.  If a player comes late, they are added to bottom of batting order.

6.       Roster size of 15 maximum.  Pulling area must not be larger than high school sending district.

7.       Free substitution of players in the field.  Re-entry rule not in effect.  Substitutions need not be announced.

8.       Coaches pitch to their own team.  No walks allowed.  A batter may strike out.

9.       Runners may lead once the ball reaches the batter.  The runner shall be called out if she leaves early.

10.   35’ pitching distance.

11.   6-inning game – Mercy at 10 runs after 4 innings (3 ½ if winning) or unless coaches want to continue until time limit.

12.   10 Batter limit per inning. The 10th batter will be announced and will bat as normal.  The ensuing play will be treated as if there were two outs.

13.   10 fielders allowed.  All four outfielders must start the play in the grass.

14.   No stealing allowed. 

15.   No infield fly rule and no dropped third strike.

16.   The runners will be awarded one base in addition to the base they are headed to when a ball goes out of play.

17.   A ball into the pitching circle ends the play.  If the runner is in between bases, she must decide whether to continue to the next base or return.

18.   The game should be stopped immediately if any lightning or thunder is present.  The umpire should stop the game for 30 minutes from the last occurrence. 

19.   Coaches are responsible for keeping the backstop clear of spectators and players.
